Special guests from Indonesia join the Melbourne Art Book Fair for the first time. Krack! (Yogyakarta) and Binatang Press (Jakarta) come to Melbourne to showcase their work and speak to the unique publishing landscape of their cities. In a talk with art historian and curator Bianca Winataputri, the group will discuss the intricacies of the Indonesian arts community and contextualise its influence within and beyond Southeast Asia.

Bianca Winataputri Moderator

Bianca Winataputri is a curator, writer and PhD candidate based in Naarm (Melbourne) and originally from Jakarta, Indonesia. Her research is centered on the persisting regional interest in contemporary art and exhibitions from Southeast Asia and she also hosts a podcast called ‘Talking Contemporary’, which features conversations with artists and creatives connected to the region.

Binatang Press Speaker

Binatang Press! is a small-scale independent publisher based in Jakarta, Indonesia. Part of creative studio The 1984, they focus on art and visual culture and are all about honest expressions, encouraging collaborators to voice their observations and personal point of view.

Krack! is a printmaking studio and gallery that was established in Yogyakarta, in May 2013. We work collaboratively with artists to produce and exhibit print-based works that are visually innovative and respond critically to events, developments and cultural debates in the Asia Pacific region.
