In this workshop of practical printmaking, we explore the various methods of etching. The day will include demonstrations, examples, conversation on printmaking in contemporary art and design, and ample time for participants to create their own original etchings using techniques including:

  • Manually working into the plate
  • Acid etching using various grounds
  • Collage
  • Mono prints

Participants are guaranteed to leave with a handful of original prints of their own. Hosted in a cluster of Warrandyte studios, attendees will also have the opportunity to explore artist’s working studio spaces spanning sculpture, ceramics, printmaking and more. This workshop is suitable for all skill levels and ages. Your ticket includes all materials needed for the day: high quality printmaking paper, inks, use of the studio and press, and unlimited access to the tea, coffee and snacks bench. Ad

Artek Halpern-Laurence Facilitator

Artek Halpern-Laurence is an artist and printmaker from Melbourne/Naarm. His work focuses on using printmaking to create connection through art-making and sharing. In 2023 Artek presented the Print Kitchen in collaboration with the Melbourne Art Book Fair and exhibited in the Print Portfolio as part of Melbourne Now.

Artek runs Huge Mumma Spice Merchant; a print studio/art lab/good-things-foundry for hosting workshops and gatherings, as well as demystifying printmaking processes and experimenting with reclaimed materials.
