The Women’s Art Register
Naarm / Melbourne
The Women’s Art Register (W.A.R.) is Australia’s living archive of women’s art practice and one of the world's only surviving feminist archives from the 70s. This year we celebrate our 50th Anniversary.
The collection of images, artist files, posters, books, catalogues and ephemera documents the work of over 5000 Australian based artists from the 19th century to today.
Established in 1975, the not-for-profit, artist-run community and resource has an open and inclusive policy of collecting items from artists who identify as women, cis and trans inclusive, or gender diverse. The Women's Art Register provides an accessible, independent platform for research, education, advocacy and support, enhancing the status of women artists and addressing issues of equity, professional practice and cultural heritage.
W.A.R. publishes regular newsletters and the bi-annual journal, the Bulletin, guest edited by artists and writers. Recent publishing projects include the artists' workbook 'Leaving Your Legacy' and the intergenerational conversation series 'It Comes in Waves.' Membership is open to all and a wonderful way to support the organisation.
