Expensive Hobby Independent Distribution

Expensive Hobby was founded in 2020 to support independent publishers in Aotearoa arts and literature with distribution.

For the publishers they represent, Expensive Hobby provide cost-effective warehousing of stock, order fulfillment, and marketing to a nationwide network of independent and mainstream bookstores, as well as other retailers who carry books. Providing practical guidance to their publishers on publicity as well as wholesale pricing and tax, they also manage all billing with retailers.

Their catalogue features a range of genres including contemporary poetry, art publications, cultural criticism, and independent magazines. At the 2025 Stallholder Fair, Expensive Hobby will have titles from Awa Wahine, Compound Press, Dead Bird Books, City Gallery Wellington Te Whare Toi, The Physics Room, Rat World Magazine, and Titus Books.
