DPM: Damp Proof Membrane
Naarm / Melbourne
Damp Proof Membrane is the outcome of a course on experimental approaches to bookmaking and publishing by students in the Drawing and Printmaking Department (DPM) at VCA.
DPM has a new curriculum (designed by Alex Martinis Roe, Dane Mitchell, Lisa Waup and Rosie Isaac) which is underpinned by an understanding of the powerful role of art practices in shaping cultural values and understanding art practices as forms of knowledge and action that can contribute to addressing the multiple issues that face societies. As such, the course focuses on the way contemporary art is produced, discussed, and circulated.
This year DPM will present a lively combination of experimental publications including artist books, posters and non-traditional publication formats. DPM endeavour to have students view themselves as part of a professional community of makers and this project at the Melbourne Art Book Fair is an important moment for them to connect with creatives in Naarm and beyond.
