The Reader is a mid-career retrospective of Melbourne-based creative practitioner Rohan Hutchinson. The presentation focuses on two dissemination methods interwoven within his practice, the exhibition and the photobook.

Hutchinson’s exhibition practice consists of large-format photographic prints from research-driven projects, introduced by text and created to be read at length. His photo books are tangible, designed to be read privately, revisited and open to interpretation.

The exhibition presents both practices in dialogue for the first time. It creates a space for reflection on the varied methods applied across the two formats, and how these shift depending on the intended reader.
