Join artist Lyndal Walker for the launch of Venus & Saturn, a major new publication tracing three decades of her practice across photography, textiles and installation. Drawing on myth, ritual and fashion, Venus & Saturn explores the interplay between beauty and time, youth and transformation. Inspired by the archetypes of Venus and Saturn, Walker’s work interrogates personal identity through mirrors, garments and symbols, while reflecting on how we move through cycles of desire, nostalgia and change.

In conversation with a special guest, Walker will discuss the making of the book and the evolving themes of gender, astrology and temporality that thread through her work.

Participants

Lyndal Walker
Lyndal Walker’s practice cuts across photography, installation, writing and performance, exploring gender, identity, time and transformation. With mirrors, fashion and changing rooms as tools, she dismantles fine art conventions and interrogates the act of looking itself. Her work draws on astrology, animism and Indigenous knowledge systems to reframe ideas of self and collective consciousness, responding to urgent ecological and social shifts. Since 1994, Walker has exhibited internationally in institutions such as MCA Sydney, the National Gallery of Australia and Künstlerhaus Bethanien Berlin, and her work has been featured in Frieze, Artforum and Art & Text. A collaborative force, she helped shape Melbourne’s art scene through initiatives like 1st Floor Artists and Writers Space and Citylights, and continues to evolve a radical, multidisciplinary practice grounded in ritual, symbolism and the cosmic.
