Intermediary is a publication and curatorial testing ground that seeks to develop a fertile space for dialogue between estranged creative disciplines.

Sisters, Ellen and Frances Waite – alongside their friend and collaborator, Adele D’Souza – have co-curated and co-designed the publication to examine the complex networks that connect art, design and craft. Drawing on the dual definitions of ‘intermediary,’ as both a mediator and an indeterminate stage, the publication aims to instigate collaboration and critique between creative disciplines, without flattening the complex and often fraught distinctions between them.

In the debut issue of Intermediary, we consider failed utopias and handicraft, publishing the work and writing of fourteen early-to-mid career crafts people, artists, designers, writers and hobbyists.

The launch of this project will involve an exhibition of works by Intermediary’s contributors with the publication available for purchase.

They have worked with the National Gallery of Victoria’s Exhibition Design Team, along with RMIT University’s School of Design and RMIT Culture.
