The Melbourne Art Book Fair and Melbourne Design Week bring together creatives for the exchange of ideas, collaboration, and discussions on contemporary design, art, and publishing. These events highlight the many ways creatives shape cultural conversations – but what about the people behind the scenes? Who make these projects happen, and how do they get there?

If you’re passionate about working in a creative industry but unsure how to turn that interest into a career, you’re not alone. The arts can feel like a maze of unpaid internships, competitive roles, and unclear pathways.

Join a panel of arts workers from the National Gallery of Victoria as they share insights into their roles, career journeys, and what it’s like to work within a leading arts institution. From publishing and design to programming and events, this conversation will explore the many ways to build a career in a museum or gallery context.

Presented by the Melbourne Student Union, this event is open to students and recent graduates from all tertiary institutions. Tickets include a meal and free drink at Bar Ida after the presentation.
