Soft Stir
Eora Nation / Sydney and Naarm / Melbourne
Soft Stir is an independent publication examining art, music, culture and philosophy through the eyes of diverse emerging Australian creatives. Founded in 2019, their goal is to strengthen cultural and creative networks in the Australian community, while providing opportunities for cross-disciplinary creative expression and topical critique.
They have three issues in circulation; ‘Stories of Home’, ‘Stories of Healing’ and their recently launched ‘Stories of Collision’. Each is curated with a wide range of voices in art, design and literature, from poets, storytellers, musicians, photographers, illustrators and more, with a keen focus on people from culturally diverse backgrounds and the LGBTQIA+ community.
Every issue is as much a literary and cultural publication as it is a design object: each story pairs with a visual artistic response, harnessing bespoke design, typefaces and layouts to pay homage to the content and theme. Contributors to Soft Stir include Jazz Money, Bhenji Ra, Amrita Hepi, Genesis Owusu, Eda Gunaydin, Dean Cross, Jacquie Meng, Justine Youssef, Studio MIMU, Victoria Pham, Ayebatonye Abrakasa, Dakota Feirer, Garden Reflexxx, Tilly Lawless, Tiarna Herczeg, Michael Sun, Mikaela Stafford, Other Matter, Lucia Tường Vy Nguyễn, and many more.
