Audio Art Australia

Audio Art Australia (AAA) is a new record label and publisher focused on highlighting sound work by contemporary artists better known for their visual practices. AAA celebrates Australia's rich but under-recognised history of experimental sound art, making work by its key figures available through collectible vinyl editions and associated publishing.
The label launches in 2025 with the limited-edition LP 'Robert Rooney: Graphic Scores' (AAA001), bringing together the only extant recordings of Rooney's avant-garde scores – performed by the artist (piano), Barry McKimm (trumpet) and Syd Clayton (double bass) – from the period 1965–68. Like his renowned paintings from the same period, with their emphasis on abstraction, pop motifs and the impersonal, Rooney’s graphic scores demonstrate the artist’s interest in open-endedness and chance within the structure of a predetermined system. Accompanied by research addressing the gap in knowledge about Rooney's little-known sound practice, 'Robert Rooney: Graphic Scores' documents one of the earliest occasions in Australian history when experimentation in visual art and music was combined.
