Soft Listening reimagines contemporary print publications as a live literary soundscape inside Tender Place.

Curated readings from Soft Stir and a selection of independent publishers unfold alongside live responses from musicians and DJs, weaving texts together into a meditative, sensory-rich encounter with print publishing.

Through shifting pairings of sound, voice and scent, Soft Listening invites audiences to slow down, get comfy and listen closely as unexpected threads emerge between each story.

Participants

Soft Stir
Soft Stir is an independent, Sydney-based publication examining art, music, culture and philosophy through the work of diverse and emerging Australian creatives. Each issue gathers a mix of essays, interviews, poetry, fiction, illustration, photography, artworks and sound in response to a central theme. As a platform for reflection, experimentation and collaboration, its aim is to strengthen cultural and creative networks within the Australian community and create opportunities for cross-disciplinary exchange. Soft Stir is stocked globally in galleries, design bookstores, publishing fairs and independent art spaces, and has featured in programs for the Sydney Writers’ Festival, Semi Permanent, Melbourne Design Week, the Powerhouse Museum and more.

Tender Place
Tender is a ‘third place’ – a space distinct from home and work where people can experience a transformative sense of self, identity and relation to others. Tender offers an architecturally designed, acoustically treated space fitted with a pair of Pitt & Giblin speakers that feature in its Deep Listening sessions and yoga classes. Alongside yoga and music-adjacent events, Tender hosts workshops, exhibitions, film screenings and other community and arts-focused events.
